Art Instructor Job Description

Bad Dog Arts is a non-profit organization located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our mission is to inspire youth from diverse cultures to experience the power and freedom to imagine, dare, and create new possibilities, individually and collaboratively, through the creative arts.

Bad Dog Arts is searching for an artist/educator who wants to work part-time to combine his/her skills with our talented team in a challenging and rewarding environment. Reporting to the Director, this position is responsible to provide art instruction for youth enrolled in Bad Dog Arts various programs. Art Instructors must have an arts background and a passion for enhancing the lives of children and teens through the arts, with a desire to understand and internalize the mission, purpose, values and goals of Bad Dog Arts.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Meet on a regular basis with Director and Programs Coordinator to coordinate programming plans and evaluate success of projects and classes.

  • Teaching kids in grades K-8 during afterschool hours and some weekends. During the summer we run full day camps.

  • Create and organize project lesson plans; prepare and gather materials before class.

  • Able to assess age appropriateness of lessons and materials in the classroom.

  • Perform demonstrations for the class on technique and process.

  • Provide assistance to students with the completion and generation of art projects.

  • Supervise and provide direction to classroom assistants and volunteers.

  • Collect art materials; appropriate cleanup of classroom after class.

  • Return materials to proper place in the Bad Dog Studio.

  • Provide sufficient notice to supervisor if unable to teach a scheduled class.

    General Requirements

  • Two years teaching experience is preferred; Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fine Arts is a plus

  • Promote and cultivate positive personal interaction with students, teachers, and administrative staff.

  • Be well versed in various art forms and have excellent artistic, research, and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to multi-task; be productive, focused, and flexible in a creative & sometimes chaotic

    environment.

  • Have a natural ability to interact and communicate effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.

  • Demonstrate a pleasant and professional manner.

  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight.

  • Successful candidate will need a reliable source of transportation with insurance and a valid driver’s license.

  • Flexible schedule with availability during regular school hours

  • Must pass annual background check
