Bad Dog Arts & the US Forest Service present an Opportunity for Teens
More Teens in the Woods • June 23-27, 2014 • 8:30 – 4:30 For students entering grades 9 - 12
Attend a week long Art & Science summer camp in partnership with AMES – Academy for Math, Engineering, and Science at Cottonwood High School, 5715 S 1300 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84121
What is the camp about?
Experience hands-on art and science projects that bring together the worlds of cartography (maps), geospatial imaging, and visual art. Half of our time will be spent learning about local and global environments and the SLC watershed with our Forest Service friends. You will use your new knowledge on two field trip days doing science experiments & experiencing the great outdoors. The other half of the time, you will be creating artwork inside and outside with artists from Bad Dog Arts. We will also prepare to create a large installation piece for the new Salt Lake City Forest Service office. The week ends with an art show of the week’s work.
What do I need to do to attend?
You must show a strong interest in art, a desire to achieve artistic excellence, and be able to commit to the full week of the program. Complete and return the application form (download application below).
Is there a cost?
No. Thanks to a grant from the US Forest Service, this program does not have a registration fee. We do require you contribute 20 volunteer hours with our summer camp programs (one week of 4 hours per day). Indicate volunteering preferences on the application.
How will it benefit me?
Students will receive art and science instruction by professionals working in both fields, and will have the opportunity to discover new career paths. Additionally, selected students will be invited to join the team that will create the final installation artwork for the Forest Service office.
Applications Due: Friday, June 6, 2014 (or until all spots are filled) Space is limited! Completing this application is not a guarantee of being accepted into the program. Applicants will be notified by email by June 3, 2014, then registration forms will follow. Note: Information is confidential for program purposes and will not be shared.
